Digital Laminate Surfaces

Almost anything that can be printed on paper can be incorporated into digital laminate, including logos, photography, illustrations, custom graphics, and backgrounds. You can provide a complete design, create your own artwork, or ask us to assist with developing or refining your design.

Yes. If your project includes a corporate or school logo, the logo is usually the focal point, but the background is an important part of the overall design. We encourage creativity and can assist with creating or enhancing a background that complements your logo.

We can match colors as closely as possible using the CMYK printing process. If precise color matching is important, please provide a Pantone number or another established color standard and we’ll work toward the closest CMYK match. Some colors cannot be reproduced exactly in CMYK, so a scatter proof with several variations may be provided for you to select the preferred match.

We can work toward a similar appearance, but digital reproductions will not be an exact match to stocked Wilsonart laminate. Digital laminate is printed on white paper, which can create noticeable differences in color, tone, and overall appearance. Send us the Wilsonart pattern you’re interested in and we’ll confirm whether a digital version is available.

With the exception of solid black, large areas of solid color are not supported for digital laminate. For the majority of large solid color applications, we will substitute with an optical solid—a subtle pattern that appears solid from a distance while helping create a more consistentprinted result. Large gradients will be also be converted into optical solids, with smaller gradients acceptable depending on the design.

Pure solid white cannot be used in a background; a light gray optical solid—a subtle pattern that appears solid from a distance—will be recommended instead.  Limited areas of visible solid white are acceptable.

Yes. Shutterstock is a resource for backgrounds and complete designs. Send us the Shutterstock image number or link and we’ll review it for suitability. Once approved, we can purchase the artwork with the appropriate licensing for use in your project.

Avoid narrow borders around the perimeter of a tabletop or panel. Borders 4 inches wide or less are not recommended because normal manufacturing tolerances can make the finished border width appear inconsistent. If your design includes a border, we can help review the artwork and recommend an approach that works better for production.

Vector files such as Adobe Illustrator, EPS, or PDF are preferred. High-resolution JPEG, unflattened TIFF, or unflattened PSD files can also be used. Raster artwork should be at least 100 pixels per inch at full size. For example, artwork for a 24-inch-wide surface should be at least 2,400 pixels wide. Raster artwork should not simply be converted to vector format to meet the file requirement, as this does not improve image quality and may introduce unwanted artifacts.

All text in vector artwork should be converted to outlines before submission. This helps prevent font substitutions or formatting changes if the original font is not available in our system.

SurfaceWorks can assist with artwork preparation, layout, and design development as part of the digital laminate process. If submitted artwork is not suitable for production, we may be able to recreate or prepare it in the proper format. The amount of design support required will vary by project, and additional charges may apply for extensive artwork preparation, revisions, recreation, or custom design work.

Digital laminate is available in Matte (60), the default finish, and Textured Gloss (07).

Yes. Once an order is received, a 15" × 19" laminate proof containing your design elements will be provided for final approval before production. If artwork size or placement is not specified, SurfaceWorks will determine the optimal size and placement for the project, or a PDF proof showing placement and size options may be provided upon request.

Once final approval is received, please allow a minimum of 12–16 weeks for laminate production and overall product completion. The proof approval process may take an additional 1–4 weeks, depending on artwork complexity and current scheduling capacity. Lead times are subject to change based on artwork complexity, the duration of the approval process, and current manufacturing capacity. We recommend submitting artwork as early as possible, ideally with your quote request.
